American Man Jailed For Allegedly Swearing At Russian Cops

(PatriotPostNews.com) – Russian law enforcement have been increasingly targeting Americans living abroad in the country.

American citizen Joseph Talarico IV was detained for over a week on charges of obscene language in public as well as for harassing a police officer. Russian law enforcement accused Talarico of theft. Talarico has asserted that he is innocent, suggesting that law enforcement is targeting American citizens. In an similar incident, another American, Sergeant Gordon Black, was arrested in Russia and also accused of theft. Black was in Russia to see his girlfriend when law enforcement accused him of theft of personal property.

Talarico is originally from California but resides in Russia with his wife on a residence permit. Russian law enforcement officers who searched Talarico’s house claim that Talarico used profanity against them in English. Talarico does not speak Russian, and the officers do not speak English. The officers are claiming that they recognized the English swear words.

Talarico was provided with a Russian interpreter for his court date a few days later. In a statement by Russian Green District Courts, the court sentenced Talarico to 10 days of administrative arrest. The American citizen maintains his innocence. Former Marine Paul Whelan was accused by Russian authorities of being a spy in 2018. In 2020, he was sentenced to 16 years of imprisonment.

Former US Marine Trevor Reed was accused by Russian authorities of assaulting a police officer and was arrested and sentenced to 9 years in prison. Reed was released from Russian custody after a prisoner exchange for Russian citizens who had been in American prisons under charges of drug smuggling.

Women’s basketball star Brittany Griner was arrested by Russian law enforcement after being discovered with a cannabis vape cartridge. The vape cartridge was illegal in Russia and Greiner could have faced 10 years in prison. The Biden Administration swapped Reiner with the infamous Russian arms dealer, Victor Bout, also known as “The Merchant of Death.”
