(PatriotPostNews.com) – A top donor to the campaign of Republican candidate Nikki Haley has decided to withhold a “major gift” until after the upcoming New Hampshire primary in the highly anticipated presidential election.
Ken Langone, co-founder of the Home Depot franchise and a top supporter of Haley’s presidential run, said on January 18 that she will need to make considerable progress in the New Hampshire race set to take place today.
Langone told the media that Haley must “get traction” during the upcoming primary. If she does not, he said, he would be hesitant to “throw money down a rat hole.” However, the donor expressed that he would willingly provide what he described as “a nice sum” to support the candidate if he deemed it a worthwhile investment.
Langone had given his endorsement to Haley in early December 2023, pointing out that her biggest competitor—former president Donald Trump—had already seen his time and the White House “come and gone.”
The billionaire told reporters that he speculates the Republican nominee will be Trump and that he will be going up against President Joe Biden, who is running for re-election. Trump has garnered significant support from the public, winning the Iowa caucuses in a landslide.
Although he acknowledged that Trump had accomplished “some pretty good things” during his time in the Oval Office, Langone also said he was focused on “himself” and expressed the need for “a very competent manager” and “a president-statesman” as the next commander-in-chief.
The billionaire said his support is behind Haley due to his belief that she is the candidate who will come closest to meeting such requirements.
Langone’s stipulation on continued funding comes days after Haley placed third in the Iowa caucuses on January 15, falling far behind Trump and cutting it close to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. Haley is strongly backed in New Hampshire, though still less than Trump, according to polls.
We’ll likely know the status of his endorsement and donation soon.
