(PatriotPostNews.com) – Chinese Coast Guard vessels have been consistently witnessed in the disputed area just off the Senkaku Islands.
The Senkaku Islands were incorporated into Japan in 1895. Records show that prior to claiming the territory, Japan “inspected the islands” to ensure no other country had claimed them. Japan’s move to claim the islands was in accordance with international law. The Chinese Communist Party has long asserted that the islands belong to China.
After World War II, the United States signed a peace treaty that affirmed Japan’s claim to the islands. Chinese leadership left the islands under Japanese administration for at least 75 years. It was not until 1992 that China declared a claim on the territory. Since 1992, China has been sending ships. The vessels often patrol Japanese borders, but many Chinese vessels have crossed into Japanese territory.
On Wednesday, May 8th, the Chinese coast guard announced a new strategic operation. According to statements released by the Coast Guard, the plan would “assert rights” over the islands. Also on May 8th, Japanese authorities detected four Chinese ships about 12 nautical miles off the island chain. Reports say the vessels remained in Japanese-controlled territory for roughly four hours. The Japanese Coast Guard regional headquarters in Okinawa reported that one of the ships may have been armed with an autocannon, a large caliber automatic weapon.
A video of a massive Japanese warship has gone viral on Chinese social media. The footage, allegedly taken by a Chinese drone, shows close-up footage of the vessel. Japanese authorities say that no classified information was captured by the drone, but expressed extreme concern over a Chinese aircraft crossing into heavily restricted Japanese territory.
Originally, the video was believed to be fake or generated by AI. Japanese officials confirmed the video was real after identifying text on one part of the ship. Japanese authorities have not released when, how, or why the drone entered the restricted military zone.
