Clarence Thomas Bashes Brown V. Board Decision During 70th Anniversary

(PatriotPostNews.com) – Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas questioned the legitimacy of the Supreme Court’s historic Brown v. Board of Education ruling that ended racial segregation in public schools. Thomas suggested that the court did not have the authority to make the decision, and noted that public schools today remain segregated despite the 1954 ruling.

Over the last few decades, American public schools have become significantly more racially divided, partly due to school zone policies that restrict children to a single educational option. School choice programs aim to allow private schools, charter schools, and homeschooling families to access state education funds.

The increased racial division happens at a time when the United States is more racially diverse than it has ever been. It also comes at a time when charter schools, private schools, and homeschooling are all on the rise due to school choice programs.

Supreme Court Justice Thomas suggested that the court went beyond its mandate and dubbed the 1954 ruling as “extravagant uses of judicial power. He pointed out that the Supreme Court’s role is to interpret, not “invent.” Thomas is a school choice advocate and has long criticized public schools.

Under Ron DeSantis, the state of Florida has become known for school choice, with tens of thousands of students switching to private or charter schools. Florida’s school choice movement has enabled more parents to homeschool their children. A growing number of families are opting for alternatives to public schools. Florida has pioneered many right-wing programs and serves as a roadmap for school choice programs.

Texas Governor Gregg Abbot has vowed to follow Florida’s lead and provide Texas families more educational options. Abbott blamed teachers’ unions for obstructing school choice efforts. Abbot suggested that the unions oppose school choice because they enjoy having a “monopoly” over education. Approximately 55% of Texas residents approve of school choice programs.

Thomas, DeSantis, and Abbott highlight ongoing challenges in school choice policies.
