College Presidents Called To Testify In Congress On Anti-Israel Demonstrations

(PatriotPostNews.com) – This week, House Republicans summoned the presidents of numerous American universities to testify before Congress as intense anti-Israel protests continue on campuses.

On Tuesday April 30, the GOP in the House of Representatives requested Congressional testimony from the leaders at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), the University of Michigan, and Yale University. The summons was announced by Republican Rep. Virginia Foxx of North Carolina, the chairwoman of the House Education and Workforce Committee.

The committee, which sent the request, is planning to hold a hearing on May 23 to demand “accountability” for “stopping antisemitic college chaos.” Peter Salovey, president of Yale, Santa Ono, president of University of Michigan, and Gene Block, president of UCLA, are supposed to share their testimonies.

Foxx described the leaders at the universities with the most raucous demonstrations as “mealy-mouthed” and “spineless,” declaring that Congress “will not tolerate” the suspected enabling of the protests and “dereliction” of the responsibility to “your Jewish students.”

Foxx added that “no stone must go unturned” in the probe, citing the reality that buildings are being vandalized, campuses overrun with encamping protestors, and graduations “ruined.” She also said that American universities are not places to enable “playacting juveniles” nor do they serve as a demonstration spot for “radical activists.”

The intense demonstrations—which are calling for an end to the attacks launched by the Israeli military that have killed more than 30,000 civilians in response to the October 2023 Hamas attack—reached a new height at the end of April when more than 100 protestors were arrested for an unlawful encampment at Columbia University.

The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, also made headlines this week when pro-Palestinian protestors replaced the American flag with the Palestinian flag. Notably, members of a fraternity kept the nation’s flag from falling to the ground and held it respectfully until police arrived on scene to replace it.
