(PatriotPostNews.com) – Former president and leading GOP candidate Donald Trump has once again spoken out against the high-profile lawsuit he faces, calling into question why he is being tried over what he described as “legal fees” he paid to a former attorney.
The controversial Republican is currently facing criminal charges accusing him of falsifying business documents and paying a pornographic actress to keep quiet about a romantic fling between the two of them 20 years ago. The so-called hush money trial began on April 15, making Trump the first former president to stand before a criminal trial.
The defendant has long berated the case as a political ploy intentionally designed to upend his bid for reelection in November. In a recent Truth Social post, the former president criticized Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan District Attorney, of arguing that money paid to Trump’s former lawyer does not qualify as a “legal expense.”
The presidential candidate has acknowledged his authorization of a $130,000 reimbursement to attorney Michael Coehn during his last campaign but denies that it was anything more than a business move, also rejecting claims he had an affair with Stormy Daniels. Bragg, however, alleges that this act was intentionally committed to influence the 2016 presidential election by keeping the affair under wraps.
In Trump’s business records, the payment in question is categorized as “legal fees.” Trump further stated in his recent social media post that Bragg was denying the accuracy of the term and wondered which word “would be more appropriate” in the eyes of the district attorney.
Trump further criticized the case as using the language of his business transactions as “the pretext” for indicting him, which lines up with what he calls the “crooked Joe Biden narrative.” He also complained that, due to the lawsuit, he is “stuck in a courtroom” and unable to fully campaign for a second term in the White House.
Previously, Trump has consistently accused the criminal case of being a disguised “witch hunt” spearheaded by the current administration that seeks to keep him from winning the 2024 presidential election. He is facing 34 felony charges in the case, for all of which he has pleaded not guilty.
