(PatriotPostNews.com) – Speculation around who will be former President Donald Trump’s 2024 running mate has reached a boiling point as popular hopefuls like Kari Lake, Tim Scott, Nikki Haley, and the now infamous Kristi Noem have been struck from Trump’s shortlist. Reports suggest Trump’s list could contain as many as 50 options for his VP pick.
The most likely choices from Trump’s list are Vivek Ramaswamy, Senator JD Vance, Senator Tim Scott, Ron DeSantis, and Doug Burgum. Reports also listed Texas Governor Greg Abbott as an obvious choice. In response to the speculation, Abbott announced that he is focused on running for reelection as governor, saying he plans to “stay in Texas.”
Doug Burgum, Republican Governor of North Dakota, has seen his poll numbers spike. Burgum campaigned to be the 2024 Republican candidate, but ultimately dropped out of the race early and endorsed Donald Trump. Two websites that monitor the odds of presidential hopefuls, Polymark and Oddschecker, both showed a significant uptick in Burgum’s numbers. Burgum is now tied with Tim Scott as one of Trump’s top picks.
Oddschecker puts the former Hawaii Democratic Congresswoman, Tulsi Gabbard just behind Scott and Burgum. Gabbard made headlines in 2022 when she announced she no longer identifies with the Democratic party. Gabbard has not switched to the Republican Party, but rather has acted as an independent with diverse views. It’s possible her former status as a Democrat could help balance out Trump’s right-wing 2024 ticket.
J.D. Vance and Vivek Ramaswamy are still close choices for VP. Both candidates have attended Trump’s current “hush money” trial as a show of solidarity with the former president. JD Vance described the hush money trial as “psychological torture.” Vance criticized Judge Merchan as well as Merchan’s daughter, who had worked for a liberal consulting firm that partners with Democrats seeking office positions.
While Doug Burgum has seen his chances rise, he is nearly neck and neck with Tim Scott and Tulsi Gabbard.
