(PatriotPostNews.com) – As American universities continue to grapple with intense pro-Palestinian protests on college campuses around the country, students at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) could be expelled.
A demonstration erupted on the campus on Thursday, May 2, ending with a heated encounter between opposing groups that later went viral on social media. The following Sunday, the university’s segment of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) posted on Instagram, demanding that there be a punishment of “expulsion” of those who allegedly threw out “racist remarks” during the confrontation.
The incident in question involved multiple white students and one black student on the Mississippi campus. According to videos posted on X, the black student makes her way towards the white students, who seem to be filming her mockingly. The clip also shows police intervening with the students in an effort to subvert the tension and confrontation.
The NAACP post named three students that are said to be involved in the situation. An Ole Miss representative said earlier that some “statements” spoken during last week’s protest were “offensive and inappropriate,” though the spokesperson did not specify the nature of the words in question.
Additionally, the school said that all words and actions that run contrary to the university’s policies will be responded to “with appropriate action.” A follow up statement from Ole Miss further explained that the institution is barred from speaking about “any specific student” under “privacy laws.” However, it did reveal that a single “student conduct investigation” has been opened and that the school is “working to determine” if more should be opened.
The incident and threat of expulsion at Ole Miss are the latest installments of protests at college campuses, many of which have ended in arrests. It showcases American division and tension surrounding the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, which some view as a warranted response by the Jewish nation and others declare is reaching beyond self-defense and into negligence of civilian safety.
