(PatriotPostNews.com) – As the controversial debate about whether the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) has been (or is being) weaponized against American citizens rages on, a journalist known for his liberal opinions has blasted such accusations against the government.
John Harwood—a left-wing journalist who made national headlines for the end of his position as CNN’s White House correspondent in 2022 when the outlet’s leadership sought more neutral political coverage—recently took to social media to smack down opinions that the DOJ is weaponized.
In response to a January 30 article published in the New York Magazine Intelligencer, Harwood posted on X, formerly Twitter, that the term “weaponized Justice Department” is “bulls***.”
The journalist also criticized efforts to impeach President Joe Biden and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and “Trump victimhood whining” by describing each of these grievances with the same word he used to blast the “weaponized Justice Department” claim.
The article which sparked Harwood’s tirade against such claims was written by New York Magazine columnist Jonathan Chait, who argued that “sleepy Joe”—a nickname for the sitting president used by his opponents and first popularized by former president Donald Trump—is “doing a terrible job of targeting his enemies.”
Chait pointed out that, should he win his current campaign for re-election, controversial Republican Trump may very well use the DOJ to criminally charge those who have attacked him for political gain.
While the journalist noted that this threat is “a good enough reason” on its own to keep Trump from a second term in the White House, he also acknowledged that “Republicans have an answer” in promoting the reality that Biden’s presidency is “already using” the DOJ to “target its enemies.”
Chait also reiterated the fact that Trump is not the only one who “constantly asserts” the DOJ’s “corruptly targeting” of the administration’s enemies and that even strong opponents of the leading GOP presidential candidate share the same opinion.
