(PatriotPostNews.com) – A former aide to Donald Trump made a recent testimony in court that jeopardizes the embattled former president’s claim that he was hiding hush money payments from his wife rather than American voters.
On Friday May 3, Hope Hicks provided evidence against Trump, for whom she served as a top White House advisor and as an employee for The Trump Organization. The public relations expert reportedly spoke in court after being subpoenaed and even cried while sharing evidence against the former president.
According to Janos Marton, an attorney from New York, her testimony poses notable challenges to Trump’s legal team as they try to argue that the hush money payments were made for personal reasons rather than political ones. The transactions in question were made by Trump’s former attorney, Michael Cohen, to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.
The money was given to her ahead of the 2016 presidential election in an effort to keep an alleged romantic fling between the actress and the politician a secret. Trump, who has denied that the 2006 affair ever took place, has said that the payments were intended to keep the rumors away from his wife, Melania, but were not motivated by his presidential bid.
Marton explained that the involvement of Hicks, a White House official at the time, in the transactions “makes it harder” for the jury to believe that the payments were for “some personal matter.” Instead, he pointed out, the Manhattan District Attorney will take her testimony and present it as “further evidence” that the money given to Daniels was to keep quiet the potentially “devastating political scandal” ahead of the election.
The attorney also noted that Hicks’ awareness of all the details about the payments is not complete and described her as a “non-cooperating witness.” Because she has not been charged with any crimes, she would not be incentivized to share everything that she knows.
Hicks spoke about the impact that the claims from Daniels had on the 2016 campaign and on the Trump administration but did not speak to the details of the transactions.
