(PatriotPostNews.com) – On Saturday, May 4th, Missouri native Ronnie Wiggs was arrested for second-degree murder. The Missouri man admitted to killing his wife while she was lying sick in her hospital bed. Her reason for initially being hospitalized has not been released.
The day before the arrest, Wigg’s wife had been reported to be awake and alert, but was later found dead in her hospital bed with new injuries found around her neck.
Police summoned Wiggs for questioning, and during the interview, he confessed that he killed her by strangling her. He admitted to being depressed because he was unable to take care of his wife and was unable to pay her medical bills. He had reportedly tried to kill her on two other occasions. However, during his final attempt, Wiggs was able to follow through and kill his wife.
Wiggs is currently being held at Jackson County Prison.
In March 2024, in Manoa, Hawaii, a man stabbed and killed his wife and himself in a murder-suicide. Forty-six-year-old Paris Oda was found deceased along with his wife. After investigation, it was uncovered that Ida was overwhelmed by debt, leading to speculation that the murder-suicide was motivated by extreme stress over unpaid debt.
The debt included three years of unpaid rent for his small business location as well as a tax lien against his residence.
Oda was sued for nearly $90,000 but reached a settlement of $50,000. In apparent response to the debt, Oda reportedly ran advertisements making false claims about his business and the charges levied against him. The Department of Consumer Affairs labeled the advertisements as “false and deceptive.”
Seeking death as a means to escape debt is not a problem unique to America. Across the Atlantic, the UK is experiencing an uptick in individuals considering suicide due to financial turmoil. Reportedly, half of those in the UK living with extreme debt have considered death as a means to escape debt.
