(PatriotPostNews.com) – A Jewish Biden appointee within the Interior Department historically resigned from her position due to the administration’s response to the war in the Middle East.
Lily Greenberg Call previously worked as the chief of staff’s special assistant before she stepped down from the role, criticizing President Joe Biden’s leadership related to the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas and citing her Jewish background as her reason for leaving.
The federal employee resigned on Wednesday May 15, becoming the first Biden staffer to quit in protest of the administration’s opinion and handling of the controversial war. Since the tragic Hamas-led massacre that killed more than a thousand innocents in Israeli towns on October 7, 2023, Americans have been increasingly divided on the subsequent war.
While maintaining support for its long-time ally, the United States government has consistently warned Israel not to escalate the war by aggravating Iran and urged the Jewish nation to reduce its intense military actions in Gaza, where more than 35,000 have died in the war. Most recently, the Israeli military pursued an attack on the city of Rafah—where more than a million civilians have fled for refuge—despite warnings from the Biden administration that America was not in support of such an act.
In her letter of resignation, Call wrote that she “reject[s]” the opinion that one group’s “salvation” can come only from “another’s destruction,” citing that she is “committed” to eliminating this belief but that it “can’t be done” through the current American administration. She also described the Gaza war as a “genocide.”
The former federal employee also explained that Biden is responsible for deaths of “innocent people” because he has the ability to “call for a lasting cease-fire,” cut off artillery supply to Israel, and ensure his Jewish ally provides more humanitarian aid to the war-torn region. Call argued that the American government has failed to use its “leverage” to “hold Israel accountable” and instead acted in ways which have “enabled and legitimized” the catastrophe.
Call is not the first to resign for such reasons. Earlier this week, an official with the Army left his position due to the role of the government in enabling the suffering and casualties experienced by so many innocent Palestinians.
