(PatriotPostNews.com) – Republican candidates in Arizona have had their petition for a new trial over alleged election rigging rejected by the United States Supreme Court.
Kari Lake, who formerly ran for governor of the Grand Canyon State, and Mark Finchem, who was a candidate for the state’s secretary of state, filed the petition over a year after the court dismissed the lawsuit. The GOP candidates both lost their races in 2022, which they allege resulted because the votes were rigged.
Although Lake and Finchem filed lawsuits in an effort to reverse the election results, judges hearing both cases determined that there was no evidence to support claims of fraud or mismanagement within the Maricopa County voting system.
Despite multiple dismissals, Lake and Finchem appealed to have a do-over trial that featured “newly discovered evidence.” In the petition, the candidates’ attorney, Lawrence Joseph, wrote that Maricopa County previously submitted “false material evidence” related to the machine software used to count votes in 2022.
The so-called “new evidence” was reportedly obtained through other legal battles and public records requests, allegedly proving that the county lied to the district court about the “safeguards” it said the region followed to “ensure the accuracy” of the election results. Based on this information, Joseph argued, his clients can “seek to amend” the case results to show that the “same harms” have a risk of taking place “in future elections.”
In August 2022, a judge rejected the case and ordered more than $100,000 in sanctions against attorneys arguing the case, stating they had made “conjectural allegations.” A year later, in October 2023, Judge John Tuchi’s decision was upheld by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, which described the case as “frivolous.”
But the candidates did not back down, leading to the recent appeal to have the United States Supreme Court hear the case and overrule lower courts. However, the petition’s rejection upheld the previous decisions made by Tuchi and the appellate court.
