(PatriotPostNews.com) – It has become a herculean task to find eligible New York jurors to commit to former President Donald Trump’s criminal trial. Roughly half of the juror candidates have been dismissed, citing their inability to be impartial when it comes to Trump. One Juror described seeing Trump as “jarring” and “bizarre.” Another potential juror said they “just couldn’t”. Nine or more jurors have been dismissed for reasons unrelated to Trump.
Those who were found unable to be fair and impartial in Trump’s case were largely women. Two dozen white women, one Hispanic woman, four Asian women, and 15 men were ultimately rejected. Jury selection is set to resume on April 23rd. Trump faces 34 counts of falsifying business records related to alleged hush money paid before he was elected. Trump has pleaded not guilty and has consistently labeled charges levied against him as part of a “witch hunt”.
Seven jurors have been selected so far, including an IT consultant, an oncology nurse, a civil litigator, a software engineer, a salesman, and a teacher. The judge presiding over the trial, Judge Juan Merchan, offered Trump a harsh warning not to intimidate the jurors. The judge claimed that Trump whispered something in the direction of a juror. Trump’s team denied the accusation and asserted that it was only a gesture. During the exchange in question, Trump was standing approximately 12 feet away from the juror he reportedly “muttered” towards.
Trump has requested that Merchan recuse himself. Trump claims that judge’s daughter has ties to Democratic politicians. Merchan has rejected the request. Merchan also threatened Trump with removal from the court if the former president “disrupts” proceedings. Additionally, Merchan also rejected a request from Trump to be excused for a single day to attend arguments at the US Supreme Court. On April 25th, the nation’s highest court will hear arguments related to Trump’s presidential immunity.
Trump’s trial for the alleged hush money begins on April 26th.
