Police Seize Ketamine Disguised As Kids’ Toys

(PatriotPostNews.com) – Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) seized ten kilograms of Ketamine. The Advanced Targeting Unit, which utilizes canine officers, discovered two concealed shipments of the drug coming from London. The shipments were tagged as children’s toys.

CBP employs over 65,000 personnel, making it the largest law enforcement agency in the country.

CBP Dallas Area Port Director Jayson Ahern, stressed the dangers of the drug, the challenges CBP faces, and the skills of his officers. He affirmed the CBP’s mission to stop illicit drugs, weapons, counterfeit goods, and unreported currency from entering the country.

Ketamine is a dissociative anesthetic hallucinogen that creates a feeling of being numb to or detached from one’s environment. The effects of the drug can include pain relief, but also immobility and amnesia. The drug is used recreationally for its hallucinogenic effects. However, abuse of the substance can lead to cognitive issues, muscle stiffening, and involuntary eye movement, as well as unconsciousness. The anesthesia of the drug can reduce breathing to the point of death.

Despite the risks when abused, ketamine is approved by the FDA as an anesthetic. In 2019, a drug similar to ketamine, called esketamine, was approved for use as an antidepressant for individuals resistant to standard antidepressants.

The CBP has faced new challenges as the border crisis continues. Officers are coming forward, admitting that they are not given enough time to screen individuals entering the country.

One border patrol officer explained that other countries are not sharing information, and because CBP is rushing through processing immigrants, there are likely many slipping through the tracks. He expressed frustration at the catch and release system, and explained that some of the background checks can take up to three days, and CBP is struggling to keep track of the data. The unnamed officer added that most individuals have no background information available. He suggested that there’s no way of knowing who is entering the country across the southern border.
