(PatriotPostNews.com) – As the highly anticipated 2024 presidential election continues through campaign season, independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced plans to focus on lobbying in certain states as he strives to get his name on state ballots.
The presidential hopeful is launching a party called “We the People” in five different states—California, Delaware, Mississippi, Hawaii and North Carolina—to prompt his likelihood of appearing on their state ballots. He has also filed paperwork to launch the Texas Independent Party in the Lone Star State.
Kennedy first joined the presidential race as a Democrat, intending to take on President Joe Biden in his re-election campaign. However, he later decided to switch parties and run as an independent. The candidate already has a spot on the primary ballot in the state of Utah.
In order to boost his chances at being included on other state ballots, Kennedy and his team determined that the formation of new political parties is the key. The campaign’s mindset is that new parties will require fewer signatures to have the candidate added to individual state ballots.
In a statement, Kennedy said he is “inspired” and encouraged by the “enthusiastic” response he has received from this venture, applauding individuals who are working to “collect signatures” and “attend rallies.” He said that the energetic and diligent response from the public will result in his name on ballots “in every state” as well as motivate Americans to register to vote.
According to the Kennedy campaign, states permit candidates running as independents to jump on a ballot in one of two ways, including registering as a single candidate or as a new party’s nominee. Since Kennedy has done the latter, the minimum number of required signatures to get on a ballot has been dropped by roughly 330,000, amounting to one third of the total requirement for national approval.
Depending on the individual state, registering as an individual candidate or as a party nominee requires a lower number of signatures than the alternatives for getting onto a ballot.
