(PatriotPostNews.com) – An Indiana high school student has made headlines for refusing to comply with his school’s request to remove the American flag from his truck while on school grounds.
In an incident publicized last week by the conservative social media account Libs of TikTok, East Central High School in St. Leon, Indiana, requested that a student named Cameron Blasek remove the American flag from his vehicle, citing concern that, if one flag was permitted to be flown on school property, others should be as well.
Blasek reportedly said that was “not happening” and informed school officials that he would keep the flag flying in the back of his truck. His response was met with a threat to have him “written up for insubordination” if he did not comply with their request. The student explained to the principal and school counselor that he was not violating state laws or the code of conduct for the school.
The interaction was met with frustration from the boy’s parents, who expressed solidarity with their son and called for citizen commitment to the American flag and free speech. Blasek’s father reportedly said that, per information from his son, East Central High is planning to edit the student handbook for next school year to prohibit the flying of American flags on school property.
One day after Blasek met with school officials, more than a dozen of his fellow students arrived at the school with the national flag flying from their cars. Following the backlash, the school released a letter to parents in which principal Tom Black said he was “pleased to inform” them that the school was permitting students to fly the American flag in the parking lot.
He added that he “share[s]” the “pride” felt by Blasek and others when representing the nation with its flag. Black noted that school officials were “under [a] misunderstanding” about the implications that could result from allowing the American flag to be flown. He expressed apologies for the “confusion” that had been caused and said that the school is not intending to change its policy on presenting the national flag.
