(PatriotPostNews.com) – A teenage gunman was subdued by parishioners after he brandished a rifle during mass at Saint Mary Magdalen Church near Lafayette, Louisiana. The incident happened while there were 60 children in attendance for their first Holy Communion.
The event was live-streamed. In the video, law enforcement officers can be seen combing the sanctuary while someone yells for parents to get hold of their children. At the start of the chaos, the reverend leading the service, Reverend Nicholas DuPré, calls for the parishioners to join him in prayer.
The suspect entered the church through a back door, but was tackled by parishioners, taken outside, and held as they waited for the police to arrive. The suspect was charged with terrorizing the church as well as underage possession of a firearm. In response, the church announced that it would station uniformed officers outside the church. The gunman’s motives are not known.
A pastor at Jesus’ Dwelling Place church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was nearly shot. During an afternoon service, a man walked into the church and pointed a handgun at the pastor. Reports say that the trigger was pulled, but the gun malfunctioned and the gunman was unable to fire the weapon. The pastor believes God prevented the bullet from leaving the gun.
The gunman was tackled to the ground from behind by church Deacon Clarence McCallister. The Deacon recalled the sensation of knowing he needed to eliminate the threat and said he believed that man would be plagued by evil forces. Though the first shot did not fire, a second attempt by the gunman may have been more successful. The Deacon saved numerous lives.
In April in Australia, seven teenage suspects were arrested after a bishop was attacked with a knife while leading mass at Christ the Good Shepherd Church in Sydney. The minors, aged fifteen through seventeen, are allegedly tied to extremist ideology and may have orchestrated the attack. Motives are not known.
