(PatriotPostNews.com) – The mother of a deceased whistleblower against the airplane manufacturer Boeing has shared that she blames the company in part for her son’s death.
Vicky Stokes, mother of John Barnett, who had headed up a major lawsuit against the airline construction business for alleged safety violations, said that her son was dead because the issue went on “so long.” Barnett was found shot dead in March after he did not show up for a deposition related to the ongoing lawsuit.
Police are still investigating the circumstances of his death, which was officially called a suicide without apparent evidence that there was foul play beyond the “self-inflicted” gunshot wound.
Stokes said in an interview with CBS News that she would “still have my son” and her other children “have their brother” if the case “hadn’t gone on so long.” Her son, Rodney Barnett, added, in the same conversation, that his brother would have persisted in voicing his complaints about the work being done at Boeing even though the environment was hostile.
John Barnett was formerly a quality control engineer with the company before leaving his position and later becoming a whistleblower about certain production issues that compromised the safety of the planes being built.
Both Barnett’s family and legal team have expressed concern about the preliminary categorization of his death as a suicide. Robert Turkewitz, one of the deceased whistleblower’s attorneys, recently told host Jesse Watters of Fox News that Barnett’s committing suicide “didn’t make sense.” The lawyer also noted that a full report from both the police and the coroner has not yet been released.
Stokes’ hint that Boeing is partly to blame for Barnett’s death comes weeks after a friend of the late engineer told local media outlets that he had warned her something could happen to him because of the case.
Days after he was found dead in his truck outside a South Carolina hotel, a family friend identified as Jennifer revealed that Barnett had previously told her, while discussing the case, that if something happened to him, “it’s not suicide.”
