(PatriotPostNews.com) – Three men have reportedly accepted plea deals in relation to charges against them in the killing of a fellow inmate and gangster.
New details in the 2018 in-prison murder of James “Whitey” Bulger have been released, revealing that three prisoners who were previously charged in the crime have accepted a plea deal. The information was released as part of a court filing on Monday, May 13, in West Virginia.
Sean McKinnon, Paul DeCologero, and Fotios Geas each faced charges of conspiracy and murder after 89-year-old Bulger was found dead in his prison cell almost as soon as he was transferred to the Mountain State from a Florida facility. He had been serving two life sentences, consecutively, for his lifetime of crime and involvement in 11 homicides.
Although details of the plea deal remain unknown, federal prosecutors explained in a three-page filing that the three prisoners had promised to “cooperate” with the American government, as they wrote a report about the details of Bulger’s death, which occurred at the Hazelton jail located in Bruceton Mills.
While Geas was immediately linked to the murder, DeCologero and McKinnon were found to be involved in the crime four years later. The murder took place on October 30, 2018, not even 12 hours after Bulger was transferred up the East Coast.
In August 2022, the Department of Justice (DOJ) revealed that the notorious gangster from Boston was planned to be killed “as soon as” he arrived in West Virginia. Geas and DeCologero reportedly beat Bulger to death at the time, while McKinnon was their lookout. The deceased inmate was using a wheelchair at the time of his death, and, according to security footage, at least two fellow prisoners pushed him out of the camera’s view at the time of his death.
Police said that Bulger was beaten to the point where he could barely be recognized by the guards who found him.
