(PatriotPostNews.com) – The leading candidate for the GOP presidential nomination, Donald Trump, recently shared what he would look for in a running mate without disclosing who he would choose if he got his name on the ballot.
The former president disclosed his criteria for his next vice president in a February 4 interview with Maria Bartiromo, host at Fox News. Trump, whose vice president from 2017 to 2021 was Republican Mike Pence, emphasized the need for his next running mate to be well equipped to take over the role of commander-in-chief should an emergency require it.
Trump gave this as his first qualification when asked by Bartiromo “what criteria” he was “using to identify” his choice for vice president. He noted that “things happen” and the ability to “be a good president” is the top priority when selecting a right-hand man.
Bartiromo then asked “who is” Trump’s first choice in a running mate, to which the candidate replied that he has “a lot” of both “good people” and “good ideas,” sharing that he “talks to everybody.”
Specifically, Trump mentioned Tim Scott, a Republican senator from South Carolina who had a brief run in the GOP primary election last year before rescinding his presidential campaign. The former president expressed that he had “called” Scott and told him he was “a much better candidate” alongside Trump than he was standing alone.
Trump noted that “people like Tim Scott” and that he was “fine” and “good” in his presidential campaign but “very low-key.” He also pointed out that he had noticed Scott “defending me” and “fighting for me.”
Scott later responded to Trump’s consideration of him for vice president by saying that his top priority is supporting the former president, so he defeats Biden and earns another term in the White House.
In addition to Scott, Trump complimented Gov. Kristi Noem of South Dakota and her stance on not running against the former president due to an awareness that she “could never beat him.”
