Trump’s Choice For Vice President May Have Senate Impacts

(PatriotPostNews.com) – As the highly anticipated 2024 presidential election nears, speculation about who the top candidates will choose for their running mates continues, as does discussion about the potential ramifications of certain picks.

In the GOP, former president Donald Trump is expected to be given the nomination, following his utter domination in the primaries over several of his opponents. He has been the presumed Republican nominee since the beginning of March, when Nikki Haley became the last prominent candidate to drop out of the race.

But even with the presumed nomination, Trump faces a certain dilemma. Two people most frequently noted as potential running mates for the candidate would come with some baggage, meaning their Republican governors would delegate who would take their respective seats in Congress.

While many people have been discussed as the possible vice-presidential pick for Trump—including 2024 presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, conservative journalist Tucker Carlson, and 2022 Arizona governor candidate Kari Lake—two individuals have stood out more than others: Sen. J. D. Vance of Ohio and Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida.

Both congressmen, if chosen as Trump’s running mate, would be replaced by their respective governors, both of whom have a history of butting heads with the former president and pose as a concern for some that their appointees would go against Trump’s Make America Great Again (MAGA) agenda.

Should Rubio be selected, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis would replace him in Congress. The Republican leader—popular in his state for his bold crack downs on divisive left-wing ideologies—famously went up against Trump in the GOP presidential primary, during which Trump chose to target him as a particular rival. According to a source, the former president is not interested in letting DeSantis choose a new senator.

If Vance is chosen, Gov. Mike DeWine is expected to select his previously endorsed Senate candidate, Matt Dolan, to replace him. Dolan recently lost a primary election to Bernie Moreno, who was backed by Trump. During the competition, the former president accused DeWine of being Republican by name only, causing tension between the two party members.
