(PatriotPostNews.com) – Judge Merchan rejected former President Donald Trump’s request for a mistrial. Trump’s defense attorneys claimed that adult content performer Stormy Daniels has dramatically changed her narrative against Trump.
The narrative changes were so egregious that Judge Merchan felt compelled to object to some of Daniels’ claims. Merchan said he expected Trump’s team to raise more objections during Daniels’ testimony.
Trump’s legal team asserted that the statements Daniels made in 2016 were significantly different from her current testimony. They demanded a mistrial. Judge Merchan rejected the request, asserting that the changes in Daniel’s testimony were too minor to constitute a mistrial.
Former President Trump has on numerous occasions pushed back on the judge. Trump has claimed since the beginning of the trial that Merchan has close ties to democratic politicians. Merchan has repeatedly threatened Trump with jail time for allegedly not following orders. The judge issued a gag order on Trump to prevent him from talking about the trial. Merchan threatened to arrest Trump for commenting about the case on Truth Social, claiming it’s in violation of the gag order. Meanwhile, Trump’s opponents have been permitted to attend interviews and post freely online.
On Wednesday, May 8th, Trump announced via his Truth Social platform that he would rather see himself in prison than surrender his right to freedom of speech. Merchan has continued to threaten Trump with prison time if he does not cease making public comments related to the trial. Earlier in the week, Trump stated that he would sacrifice himself to defend the constitution, even if it meant time in prison or worse. In all capital letters, Trump posted to Truth Social, “Give me liberty, or give me death,” from patriot Patrick Henry’s famous 1775 speech calling for freedom from British rule.
Trump is facing 34 counts for falsifying records in relation to allegedly paying Stormy Daniels $130,000 in “hush money.” Trump has pleaded not guilty on all counts.
