US Military “Out Of Time” To Modernize, Air Force Secretary Says

(PatriotPostNews.com) – In recent remarks made to a House committee, officials with the United States Air Force warned that the nation’s military is “out of time” to modernize their resources in response to foreign threats.

Frank Kendall, Secretary for the Department of the Air Force, was joined by other top military leaders on Wednesday, April 17, when he explained to the House Armed Services Committee that the nation’s defense groups do not have enough time to match the technological capabilities of foreign adversaries.

During the meeting, Kendall said that his “greatest concern” is the “race” between countries to achieve “military technological superiority.” Regarding the progress of the United States in this feat, though, America’s “cushion is gone” and it is “out of time,” the secretary said.

Earlier, on April 9, Kendall and other top military leaders emphasized that “time cannot be recovered,” citing concerns about the budget impacting the lack of progress made in the area of technological military advancement. Although the current fiscal year started on October 1, 2023, the budget was not finalized until last month.

Kendall said at the time that the delay has made a “real impact” and turned his attention to pushing ahead towards the country’s “urgent modernization priorities.” The secretary cited the recent Iranian attack on Israel as a reason to push forward with the project in preparation for potential attacks in the future.

He described the interactions with both Iran and China as “a highly contested environment,” referring to the April 13 strike against Israel that was intercepted by a group of nations including the United States.

Kendall added that he and his colleagues are “dedicated” to preventing America from seeing the result that Iran did in that attack—diversion and overcoming of its own technologies from intervening nations. He, Gen. David Allvin of the Air Force, and Gen. Chance Saltzman of Space Operations also expressed the necessity of modernizing to combat the growing military capabilities of China.
