(PatriotPostNews.com) – President Joe Biden is crafting an executive order to slow illegal crossings at the southern border. Biden has been delaying the release of the order in preparation for the myriad of legal and political challenges that will arise. The southern border has become the most important issue for Republicans. Biden is in a difficult position as he balances the integrity of the country against the feelings of his progressive base. Biden’s timing in enacting the order will be crucial if he wants to retain progressive support in the upcoming presidential election.
Aside from expected backlash and legal challenges over the border executive order, Biden also must find a means to secure federal funds to back the order.
Republicans already rejected a border deal that would have allowed for more authority to stop immigrants from entering the country illegally. Biden would be forced to rely on federal code 212(f). Trump used this federal code to combat illegal border crossings, including what was later dubbed the “Muslim travel ban”. Even with the risks, Biden appears committed to taking executive action to quell issues at the border.
In addition to challenges from his base on immigration, Biden also faces challenges from progressives over his commitment to Israel in the ongoing conflict.
Biden does not have many options but has expressed mixed feelings about taking advantage of Section 212(f). The federal code would allow the president to reduce the number of illegal border crossers entering the country by blocking individuals deemed to be detrimental to the interests of the United States.
Border crossings waned over the winter, but the numbers are expected to rise as we enter the warmer seasons. Even if Biden acquires the necessary resources and enacts his border plan, it will likely only serve as a short-term fix as tens of thousands of migrants attempt to force entry into the United States each week across the southern border.
