(PatriotPostNews.com) — A conservative think tank is moving forward with a legal challenge to President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 election.
The Oversight Project, an initiative of the Washington, D.C.-based Heritage Foundation, launched the legal battle following Biden’s disastrous performance while debating with GOP frontrunner Donald Trump. Democrats and Republicans alike called for him to drop out of his re-election campaign, citing concerns that he was unfit to lead the country.
On Sunday July 21, the president announced that he was rescinding his presidential bid, instead endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris to take his place on the ballot. The Oversight Project published a June 21 memo in which it highlighted that a “contentious path” lies ahead to legally replace the president on the ballot in November.
According to the memo, the decision to remove Biden from the ballot will result in varying procedures to replace him, depending on the state. The Oversight Project noted that there will be “potential for pre-election litigation” in certain states, challenging efforts to get another Democrat on the ballot and maybe failing to do so at all.
The organization added that lawmakers and the public deserve to “be educated and aware” of the complex road ahead, noting that there is an “intensity” which is anticipated related to “election integrity concerns.” In summary, the memo emphasizes that the candidate withdrawal and substitution process pose high risks to election integrity come November and advocates for transparency to both policymakers and American citizens.
More recently, the Oversight Project told followers via social media to “stay tuned” about updates on its legal challenge, which it said it has been “preparing […] for months.” The organization is planning to share updates on the litigation effort with the public through social media and maintain all information about it in court briefs.
Since Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential election, Democrats have a short window in which they will need to submit a candidate to replace him on the ballot. While an initial proposed nominee must be known in the first week of August, additional candidates may be proposed during the party’s upcoming convention.
