(PatriotPostNews.com) — Amid the ongoing tensions about the war in the Middle East, Israel’s prime minister has blasted a military proposal to institute daily breaks in the fighting to enable more aid to reach civilians in the war region.
Benjamin Netanyahu has been widely criticized for his intense response to the October 2023 Hamas-led massacre in Israeli towns, which killed more than a thousand innocents. He has vowed not to cease counter-offensives until the terrorist group is destroyed, but the Israeli military’s attacks have killed more than 30,000 people in the Gaza Strip.
On Sunday June 16, the Jewish nation’s military announced that it planned to pause fighting in the region between Salah al-Din Road and Kerem Shalom Crossing from five in the morning until four in the afternoon each day. This is intended as a way to allow more desperately needed humanitarian aid to reach the civilians caught in the war zone.
However, in response to the plans, Netanyahu reportedly said it was “unacceptable,” according to one Israeli official. The halted battles in the designated area would not impact the military’s primary focus in the southern part of Gaza, which is continuous strikes against the city of Rafah.
But Netanyahu is not the only Israeli leader to reject the plan. Itamar Ben-Gvir, the country’s National Security Minister, declared that the decision was made by a “fool” who should not hold his or her high-ranking position.
The plans come one week after the more moderate war cabinet member Benny Gantz withdrew from the emergency committee, declaring that the prime minister had made it “impossible” to achieve “total victory.” One day later, Netanyahu disbanded the entire cabinet, leaving major policies up to the decision of his own security council.
The move is seen as a sure delay in securing a ceasefire, an effort backed by many nations, including the United States and Egypt. Netanyahu’s Cabinet holds a majority of leaders who are against the proposed ceasefire and intend to continue fighting.
