(PatriotPostNews.com) — The process of vetting illegal migrants requesting asylum in the United States has been found lacking, according to a new report from the Office of the Inspector General (IG).
Earlier this month, the IG—which serves as the watchdog branch of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)—released a review of the current process used by the federal government to scrutinize foreign individuals seeking asylum in America. These people, as well as those trying to enter the country at designated entry ports, have led to “significant threats” in the areas of both national security and public safety, the IG says.
A redacted version of the final report was published on June 7 with the primary message that the DHS must “improve” the “screening and vetting” process of noncitizen asylum seekers.
The IG office declared in its findings that, while the outlined issues go unaddressed, the federal agency “will remain at risk” of allowing “dangerous persons” into America and permit asylum seekers who could endanger the public to remain in residence while awaiting their hearings.
The report was released as Americans remain outraged over the Biden administration’s notorious “open border” policies, which have been blamed for a number of criminal cases, including the murders of minors. Most recently, a 12-year-old girl from Houston, Texas, was killed. The two suspects who were arrested and charged are both illegal immigrants from Venezuela.
Border authorities have also encountered and arrested foreign nationals with connections to terrorist groups, including a recent incident in which Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained eight immigrants from Tajikistan who were linked to ISIS. The DHS has since agreed to implement five recommendations made by the IG to ensure greater border security.
Tennessee GOP Rep. Mark Green, who heads the House Committee on Homeland Security, sent a letter to IG head Joseph Cuffari this week, requesting a copy of the unredacted version of the report to ensure full transparency about the issue.
