(PatriotPostNews.com) — Defense contractor General Dynamics has established a cutting-edge manufacturing plant in Mesquite, Texas. United States Army Secretary Christine Wormuth toured the facility and announced that she expects it will output roughly 100,000 shells by the end of 2024. Wormuth commented that the facility will allow the US to continue to build munitions for Ukraine.
The American factory relies on a variety of components from foreign nations in order to operate. General Dynamics asserted that it chose foreign manufacturers because they were able to produce and deliver the components considerably faster than US based companies.
The factory’s robotic workers were built in Germany by a developer called Kuka. Kuka is owned by a Chinese appliance manufacturer. The hydraulic presses needed to shape the shells are supplied by Turkish manufacturer, Repkon. Turkey is a growing foreign power that is known to have produced the majority of drones operated by the Ukrainian military.
The Mesquite facility is just one component of the greater system used to produce munitions for the United States and its allies. The General Dynamics plant produces shell cases, but the explosives are installed in either Tennessee or Pennsylvania. Once armed with explosives, the shells are either used to restock American supplies or sent to Ukraine to aid in the war against Russia. The new supply chain replaces chains and facilities that were established in response to WWII.
The cutting edge facility opened in less than a year after construction began.
US munition supplies as war continues to wage around the globe. The Pentagon announced that it would depart from the US WWII system, which saw weapons components manufactured in various countries only to then be assembled domestically in the US. The Pentagon is aiming to move all American munitions manufacturing onto US soil. In order to get the new supply chain operational the Pentagon has allowed contractors to rely on foreign manufacturers for factory components.
