(PatriotPostNews.com) — Another Patriot defense system has been sent to Ukraine as the embattled nation is facing increasingly harsh air strikes from Russia.
On Sunday July 21, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that his country—which has been at war with Russia since February 2022—was given an additional air-defense system from Germany. The gift marks the third of its kind to be sent from that country.
While the precise number and locations of such devices remain confidential, Ukraine has been given at least four of the air-defense systems by various allies. Supporting nations in the West recently said they would send at least four additional systems as well.
In response to the recent gift from Germany, Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to both the ally that sent the defense resources as well as America for its involvement in the transfer. He added that the newest air-defense system will allow the Ukrainian military to “do more in the skies.”
The president also said that “much work” remains to be done and that the additional defense is not “guaranteed protection,” noting that it does still provide “more strength” for his country. The MIM-104 Patriot defense system is the best of the missile defense resources given to Ukraine in its ongoing fight against Russia.
It has effectively taken down drone and missile strikes from Russia as well as shot down aircraft from the attacking country. Over the past several weeks, Russian attacks have become more intense, posing a greater threat to public safety. Strikes have been launched in highly populated residential regions, such as a children’s hospital in the capital of Kyiv.
Earlier this month, Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine was in need of a total of 25 Patriot systems to adequately fend off missile strikes. The recent gift of the system from Germany came just before an air strike against the city of Kharkiv, which is believed to have killed at least one civilian.
