Lawmakers Respond To The Possibility That Women Might Soon Be Drafted Into The Military

(PatriotPostNews.com) — Conservative lawmakers slammed Democrats over their attempts to force women to register for military draft.

Senate Democrats made the 2024 annual defense authorization bill controversial by adding language that would require American women to register for conscription services.

The bill seems unlikely to pass in the Senate, despite Democrats’ majority in the chamber. Two prominent liberal senators, Jon Tester of Montana and Jacky Rosen of Nevada, can put their reelection bid at risk if they favor the bill. Both of them have to win a fair share of conservative voters in their respective states in order to win their races in November.

Rosen’s conservative rival, Sam Brown, who is also a military veteran and burned his face due to the explosion, recorded a video message and said that the compulsion to serve in the military comes with extreme consequences. Brown further noted that every volunteer should be welcomed in the military service, but forcing it on female Americans is completely “unacceptable.”

Republican Senator Josh Hawley from Missouri called the proposal “insane” and grilled Democrats for pursuing a woke agenda for political gains. Hawley has previously advocated against the enforcement of military draft on women in 2021 and 2022 defense bills.

A non-profit group related to former Vice President Mike Pence, Advancing American Freedom, also criticized the Democratic efforts. The group wrote to the Senate Minority Leader, Mitch McConnell, and House Speaker Mike Johnson and asked them to oppose the Democratic attempts to impose military service on females.

Republican Senator Roger Wicker, who is also a ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, called it an unnecessary debate that should not even be initiated at a time when the country is already grappling with other issues that need to be resolved on an urgent basis.

Meanwhile, Democratic lawmakers, including Chair of the Senate Armed Committee Jack Reed, defended the proposal and asked for “all able-bodied citizens” over 18 years of age to serve in the military when needed.
