(PatriotPostNews.com) – Virginia Tech firm Arthur Grand Technologies Inc. faced penalties and backlash after it posted a job advertisement that included the phrase “whites only.”
The US Department of Labor announced agreements with Arthur Grand Technologies to revise the advertisement and pay a civil penalty fine. The advertisement specified US born Caucasian applicants within 60 miles of Dallas, Texas. US Justice Department Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke referred to the posting as shameful and said that racial segregation should not exist in the year 2024.
The University of Nevada in Las Vegas hosted five segregated graduation events for different “cultural traditions.” The “cultural” groups include Asian Americans, Native Americans, African Americans, and “Latinx,” but also LGBT students. The university’s Reno campus held similar segregated graduation ceremonies.
In 2021, Columbia University was lampooned for hosting segregated graduation ceremonies. The ceremonies were divided into race, gender, and economic status. The university later backpedaled and claimed the divided ceremonies were not official graduation ceremonies.
Mike Rowe, host of the wildly successful show “Dirty Jobs,” chastised Harvard for holding similar segregated ceremonies. Rowe pointed out that dividing groups by race, gender, etc., does not celebrate American diversity, but harkens back to the days of forced racial segregation.
Starting in the 1840s, it was not uncommon to see signs in business windows openly stating, “No Irish need Apply.” Such statements were once common in public spaces as well as across advertising and media. What defines another race has changed over the centuries. The line between cultural group and racial group is often blurred. Some records suggest that the anti-Irish signs were a response to prejudice against Catholics, not the Irish.
Racial discrimination has never been limited to white versus black. The groups that were or were not accepted have shifted over time. In the present day, some researchers have downplayed anti-white racism, going as far as to claim that the anti-Irish signs did not exist.
