Tech Giant Fears Coordinated Cyberattacks By Russia And China

(PatriotPostNews.com) — Microsoft is concerned that China and Russia will coordinate cyberattacks against the American government and jump at opportunities to join technological forces with North Korea and Iran.

The worries come just after the Big Tech organization was criticized by a House Homeland Security Committee last week, during which Republican chair Mark Green of Tennessee said that American citizens “deserve assurances” that their digital information and actions “are protected.”

The scrutiny from the Congressional committee comes a year after the company fell victim to a hack connected to China, which endangered the security of emails from Microsoft clients linked to the federal government.

On Thursday June 13, the company’s president, Brad Smith, informed representatives that there were roughly 47 million reports of “phishing” within Microsoft’s network and workers during the past year. In written testimony submitted to the committee, Smith explained the military and intelligence collaboration between Russia and China as well as the countries’ close links with North Korea and Iran.

According to the Big Tech president, these connections will later be launched into cyberspace, which he described as “grave at multiple levels.” Smith noted that “it’s one thing” to face “cyber combat” with these four nations individually but that the challenge is “quite” different when they “work in tandem.” He added that the anticipated threat is both “qualitative” and “quantitative.”

Smith also warned that these countries are expected to “build up” one another’s “cyberattack capabilities” while coordinating threats against the United States. He said this is “likely” what will happen in the future.

The Microsoft president’s warnings come a few months after a multi-national project revealed the extent to which China goes with its cyberattacks. Indictments and sanctions were dealt to hackers connected to the communist government, with accusations led by the United States, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. China was accused of data theft and espionage by targeting foreign politicians, government employees, companies, and voters.
