Biden Administration Looking to Protect Undocumented Spouses of American Citizens

(PatriotPostNews.com) — As American citizens remain divided on the ongoing issue of immigration, the Biden administration has made its latest controversial move that would further protect certain illegal residents.

The White House is reportedly considering a policy that would keep the undocumented spouses of American citizens from being deported. Rather, it would allow the illegal residents to access work permits to establish a life in the United States.

Illegal immigration and border security—especially between Mexico and Texas—has been a hot button issue for years, growing more heated in the past several months. Under the Biden administration, thousands of illegal border crossings have taken place, which conservative citizens blame on the president’s notorious “open border” policies.

The issue of immigration and border policy remains a priority for voters ahead of the 2024 presidential election, which is set to be a rematch between Democratic President Joe Biden and his Republican predecessor Donald Trump. The former president has a track record of cracking down on illegal crossings and securing the southern border, in stark contrast with the chaotic policies of his successor.

According to sources close to the policy in question, the suggested rule—referred to as “parole in place”— has not been finalized in language or timing. If it reaches the point of approval and enactment, though, it would simplify the process of some undocumented residents to obtain a green card and move towards gaining citizenship.

The anonymous sources include two officials currently working for the federal government, two previously employed government workers, and one congressional official. They said that the proposal would most likely impact undocumented immigrants who have been living in America for many years rather than those who have entered the country recently.

The plan holds the potential to become the most expansive immigration relief effort in over a decade. To date, the largest such program was former president Barack Obama’s 2012 effort to protect illegal immigrants who came to America as children from deportation.

The proposal also comes amid growing chaos at the southern border, which has left even Democratic leaders more open to the option of easing the path to deportation and cutting back on the number of immigrants allowed across the border.
