(PatriotPostNews.com) — The head of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has stated that China should be scrutinized for its support of Russia in its invasion of Ukraine.
Jens Stoltenberg, the secretary-general of the multi-nation coalition, made the comments on Monday, June 17, at the Washington, D.C., Wilson Center. His address condemned the perceived ineffectiveness of “isolationism” in the current political and geographical climate.
The coalition leader specifically said that China should not be allowed to “have it both ways,” stating that the country must “change course” or else allies within NATO must “impose a cost.” It is unclear what the “consequences” he suggested the coalition deal out to China would be.
Stoltenberg argued that China is actively working to establish Europe’s “largest armed conflict” since World War II. However, the communist nation is also seeking to remain on good terms with Western countries. The NATO leader added that no distance, including the ocean, can “protect the U.S.” from modern military resources like submarines, ballistic missiles that reach other continents, “weaponization of space,” and a rise in both terror and cyber-attacks.
According to Stoltenberg, Xi Jinping of China and President Vladimir Putin of Russia have collaborated in a joint move of opposition to both the United States and NATO. He views them as having used the February 2022 invasion of Ukraine as their weapon in breaking apart global stability that was established after World War II.
Stoltenberg recommended that Putin be shown he is not capable of pushing NATO out of its resources to lead him out of Ukraine. He also endorsed the $60 billion of aid approved in a package by American lawmakers in April. The controversial foreign aid package, which totaled nearly $100 billion, also included military aid for Israel and Taiwan.
Following Stoltenberg’s criticism, the Chinese government rejected the accusations and called the NATO official out for reportedly “shifting blame” for the Ukrainian conflict as well as “sowing discord.” The government demanded that the alliance “reflect on itself” instead of “smear and attack China,” saying it is not responsible for the start of the ongoing war and declared its determination to “promoting talks for peace.”
