(PatriotPostNews.com) — After President Joe Biden’s terrible debate performance, many prominent Democrats have called for Biden to step down or exit the race before November’s election.
Polls have not offered Democrats any hope. A poll from Siena College placed former President Donald Trump six points ahead of Biden. A poll by the Wall Street Journal also placed Trump six points ahead. Trump has an overall 1.3% lead over Biden based on 780 polls.
Democratic Representatives Jared Golden, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, Raúl Grijalva, Seth Moulton, Lloyd Doggett, Angie Craig, and Mike Quigley have all called for Biden to exit the race. Former Democratic Representative for Ohio Tim Ryan also called for Biden to step down.
Golden said he expects Biden to lose in November. Golden represents Maine’s 2nd Congressional District, which Trump won by seven points in 2020. Ryan said that Biden failed to “energize anybody” and said that Biden is “out of touch.”
Democrat Adam Frisch, who is fighting to take Representative Lauren Boebert’s seat, called for Biden to exit the race. Republicans have 30 vulnerable seats, Democrats have 39. Election forecasters predict Republicans will likely keep the house.
In addition to calls from elite Democrats, donors have pulled away from Biden. Democratic donors are moving funds into a new PAC that would be saved to support a last-minute replacement for Biden. Many donors have said they will not contribute funds unless Biden exits the race. Other donors have signaled that they are ready to back a replacement.
During an interview, Biden asserted that he was not concerned about poll numbers, and said that the polls he has seen showed that the election is going to be a “toss-up.” When the interviewer pushed back, Biden doubled down and asserted that he had not seen any polls that reflected negatively on his chances.
In a separate statement, Biden said that only “the Lord Almighty” could persuade him to step down or exit the race.
