Curtis Jackson III, better known by his stage name 50 Cent, posted a picture on X on Wednesday, June 5, that has been viewed at least 5.6 million times. The photo features the rapper posing in the Capitol Building with Rep. Lauren Boebert. He wrote as a caption that the Republican lawmaker from Colorado is “making the White House look good,” with a smirking emoji.
The musician was visiting the nation’s capital this week to join an advocacy effort on behalf of black business owners, specifically small alcohol companies. 50 Cent is the owner of Sire Spirits, a liquor business. He was accompanied by Ben Crump, a civil rights lawyer, on Capitol Hill.
Although he shared pictures of himself with several lawmakers, the image of 50 Cent with Boebert was snatched up by X users, who took the representation as a cue to share both positive and negative opinions on the message.
One comment on the viral photo described Boebert as an “embarrassment” and predicted she would “lose in the next election.” Another called out 50 Cent for “disappoint[ing] me,” accusing the rapper of having “sold out [his] principles” in a way that overshadows his music.
On the other hand, others commended the post, with one user saying it is “what’s up” with a fire emoji. Another described 50 Cent as “a national treasure,” declaring him the “artist of the decade.”
But this is not the first time Boebert has been the center of controversy. In September 2023, she was heavily scrutinized by voters and donors—several of whom dropped their support of the lawmaker—after being escorted out of a theater due to distracting and inappropriate interactions with her date.
Following backlash to his interaction with Boebert, 50 Cent defended the controversial Republican in another social media post, pointing out his followers only paid attention to the photo with Boebert instead of the many he shared. He added that she did not take action that “hasn’t been done” already in “a dark theater,” referring to her biggest scandal.
