(PatriotPostNews.com) – Former president and presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump has reportedly shared vetting documents with eight individuals he is considering for his vice-presidential pick.
The controversial Republican is considering a number of lawmakers and former government officials to join him in his bid for a second term in the White House. Those on the shortlist from the House of Representatives include Rep. Byron Donalds of Florida and Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York.
From the Senate, Trump is reportedly considering Ohio’s J.D. Vance, Marco Rubio of Florida, Tom Cotton of Arkansas, and Tim Scott of South Carolina. Last year, Scott made a bid for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, later dropping out of the race and endorsing Trump.
Additional candidates for the Republican vice-presidential nomination include North Dakota’s Gov. Doug Burgum and Dr. Ben Carson, who served as the Housing and Urban Development Secretary from 2017 until 2021, under the Trump administration. According to the recent report of the packets being given to the candidates, some received more documents than others, depending on where they stood on Trump’s list.
The reported shortlist from the Trump campaign involves many unsurprising candidates, such as Vance and Rubio. But others, like Burgum and Donalds, are lesser-known figures in the field of Republican politics.
The governor of North Dakota is a favorite of the closely followed campaign, as he has followed Trump’s second presidential bid and traveled alongside him the most this campaign. Additionally, Burgum—alongside Vance—is one of the only ones who has gone to Manhattan to witness the high-profile hush money case in which Trump was convicted at the end of May.
Similarly, Donalds is a relatively new member of Congress, having joined in 2021, but has quickly made a respectable impression in the Freedom Caucus. Recent comments about election result certification—which Donalds has said he was willing to reject doing in 2028 should he be vice president—have raised speculation he would meet Trump’s standards.
