(PatriotPostNews.com) – In the latest event under scrutiny regarding the first family, Hunter Biden’s federal trial related to gun charges against him has officially begun.
The president’s son, who is notoriously known for his history of drug abuse, is being tried for illegal possession and purchase of a firearm. On Monday, June 3, the case—which is being heard in Wilmington, Delaware—got underway as Judge Maryellen Noreika oversaw the swearing in of the 12 jurors, six women and six men.
Opening statements were scheduled to begin the following morning. The case against Hunter alleges that the president’s son was in possession of a gun during the time when he was actively using and addicted to drugs. He has pleaded not guilty to the three felony counts against him.
Potential jurors were called into court 50 at a time prior to the court deciding on the 12 who are now responsible for hearing the trial and voting on the verdict. Though the group in the jury box was determined to be the best fit to objectively respond to the proceedings, a number of them have personal connections to gun ownership and drug abuse.
One woman, joined by several others, voiced that she had seen “many friends” succumb to drug addiction and lose their lives. Other members of the jury are gun owners and represent a variety of opinions related to firearm access, including the belief that those who actively use marijuana should be legally allowed to own a gun.
Hunter’s gun trial marks the first time that a president’s child has gone on trial during his or her father’s term in office. It follows the high-profile hush money case against former President Donald Trump, who was recently convicted of 34 felony counts of business document falsification. That verdict made Trump the first former president to receive a criminal conviction in court.
Two of the three counts in Hunter’s indictment allege that he lied on mandatory Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives forms to ensure the legal purchase of a firearm. The third charge against him points to his violation of federal law by owning a gun at a time when he was abusing drugs.
