(PatriotPostNews.com) – Federal Judge Aileen Cannon has denied special counsel Jack Smith’s request to place a gag order on Trump because the prosecutors failed to meet with Trump’s defense. The judge emphasized that a reasonable amount of time must be given to allow for “meaningful conferral.” Smith filed the motion on Friday evening, before Memorial Day weekend.
After former President Donald Trump was indicted on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, he pleaded not guilty on all counts. The charges are in connection with the alleged “hush money” payment to adult performer Stormy Daniels eight years ago. Even though he’s now been convicted, Trump can still be elected president of the United States. Thus far, Trump has yet to be put under house arrest or given any sort of probation.
Trump has called the trial a “witch hunt” and asserts that the trial is a politically motivated farce. Even if elected president, reports suggest that Trump would not be able to pardon himself and would have to face sentencing. If he had been found not guilty, Trump could have sued for malicious prosecution.
Nearly 70% of voters say that the outcome will not affect their vote. Only 17% said that they would be less likely to vote for Trump if he were found guilty. The voting public has already formed solid opinions on former President Trump as well as President Biden. The verdict is unlikely to sway voters. Vivek Ramaswamy and Senator JD Vance have both come out in support of Trump, calling the trial a “sham.”
Trump stated that he believes law enforcement was authorized to use lethal force against him during the raid on Mar-a-Lago. Records show that law enforcement was in fact authorized to use lethal force during the raid if threatened with ‘imminent danger or death.
Jack Smith suggested that Trump’s comments could incite violence against law enforcement and asserted that Trump must be barred from making such remarks in the future.
