China’s Xi Asks For Peace Summit To Address “Tremendous Suffering” In Gaza

(PatriotPostNews.com) – The president of China has joined the resounding call from world leaders to end the ongoing war in the Middle East, citing the “tremendous suffering” of Palestinian civilians in Gaza.

On Thursday May 30, President Xi Jinping suggested that a peace conference be launched with the intention of reaching a solution for the conflict between Israel and Palestine, heightened over the past several months after a Hamas-led massacre in the Jewish nation led to an intense offensive from the Israeli military in the Gaza Strip.

Though the October 7, 2023, tragedy was roundly condemned by world leaders for its ruthless killing of more than a thousand innocents, many are now frustrated by Israeli leaders for the seemingly negligent attacks in Gaza that have resulted in over 30,000 casualties.

Most recently, the highly controversial offensive in the city of Rafah—where many Palestinians have fled to escape the air strikes—cost the lives of at least 30 civilians in what Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described as a “tragic mishap.”

This week, Xi emphasized to leaders present at the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum that the conflict “should not continue indefinitely,” citing the need for justice not to be “absent forever.” The Chinese president expressed that his country would persist in providing humanitarian aid and promised to give $69 million more to fund emergency resources.

Amid the tense international debate surrounding the current war and its deep-rooted conflict between Israel and Palestine, China has maintained its stance that there must be a two-state solution. Along with Arab countries, the nation also urges for an immediate ceasefire in the current armed conflict and the establishment of Palestine as a member of the United Nations.

Xi’s call for an end to the “tremendous suffering” of Palestinians in Gaza came one day after a ceasefire to ensure necessary humanitarian aid reaches civilians was demanded by Kate Forbes, president of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. She expressed that a “political solution” is “desperately need[ed]” to provide a ceasefire and resources to help the civilians caught in the war.
